LOS ANGELES -- Oxy senior and three-time All-American Nanea Fujiyama (Honolulu) put on a show as the No. 6 Tigers cruised to a 12-6 conference win over No. 7 Chapman at Taylor Pool on Wednesday.
Oxy's co-captain paced the Tigers at both ends of the pool, finishing with a season-high six goals and six steals. When she wasn't scoring, she was setting up her teammates, dishing out a game-high four assists.
But it was Chapman that had the hot hand early, scoring on its first two possessions to take a 2-0 lead, 1 minute, 30 seconds into the game. The Tigers defense tightened things up from there, containing Chapman's shooters while going on a 7-0 run through the rest of the half.
Goalies Rachel Adeleye (Elizabeth, N.J.) and Geneva Perez anchored the Tigers defense with a combined 11 saves in the game.
Chapman cut Oxy's lead to four with goal at the half-time buzzer, but Oxy continued to pour it on, building an 11-4 lead late in the third quarter on their way to the win.
Lindsay Albino (Greenwich, Conn.) also provided a strong presence on the offensive end for the Tigers with a three-goal effort, her first hat trick of the 2013 season.
The victory ends a three-game losing streak for the Tigers and keeps them in the hunt for a SCIAC title. The team will travel to La Verne on Saturday as they continue SCIAC play. Game time is 11 a.m.
