LA VERNE – The Occidental College women's water polo team used a swarming press defense to hold La Verne mostly scoreless and pick up a 4-2 win in SCIAC play on Saturday.
Goalie Rachel Adeleye (Elizabeth, N.J.) was one of seven Tigers to pick up multiple steals as she finished with three while blocking six shots.
Offensively, the Tigers relied on sharp-shooting senior Danielle Garcia (Houston, Texas) who scored twice.
Nanea Fujiyama (Honolulu) and Lindsay Albino (Greenwich, Conn.) added one goal apiece.
All three players got it done on the defensive end of the pool as well, accounting for 11 of the Tigers' season-high 23 steals.
The win is Oxy's second in a row and evens their conference record at 3-3.
The No. 6-ranked Tigers travel to Claremont next Wednesday to take on No.1-ranked Claremont-Mudd-Scripps. Game time is 5 p.m.
