LOS ANGELESLauren Wemple (Needham, Mass.) dished out four assists, three different Tigers had a game-high three goals and the Occidental College women's lacrosse team earned the No. 2 seed and a first round bye in the SCIAC Tournament by beating Chapman 16-11 at Jack Kemp Stadium on Saturday.

Oxy finishes the SCIAC double round robin with a 6-4 record, tied with Chapman for second place, but owns the head-to-head tiebreaker with the Panthers after beating them twice this season.

Oxy edged Chapman 18-17 on the road on March 1.

The Tigers will face the highest remaining seed (highest ranked ex. 3 is higher than 4) in the semi finals at Oxy on April 27 at 10 a.m.

Chapman hosts Whittier in a first round game on Wednesday at 7 p.m. in Orange. If the Panthers win, the two teams will meet against at Jack Kemp next weekend.

Tori Larson (Denver, Colo.), Rebecca Belding (Burlingame) and Sarah Kessler (Portland, Ore.) led Oxy's balanced offensive attack with three goals each, wearing out the Panthers defense early. After giving up the game's first goal to Shelley LaMotte, Oxy rattled off five unanswered goals and Chapman was never closer than three goals, with the lead reaching as many as eight goals on two different occasions in the second half.

Wemple, Oxy's all-time assist leader and the 2013 SCIAC leader, increased her career total to 92 and her SCIAC mark to 24, 10 more than the second-best total of 14.

Larson, the conference's goal leader, extended her total to 38.

Beebe Finch Sanders (Berkeley) had a career-high eight draw controls and the Tigers out-drew Chapman 17-12 as a team. Finch Sanders also scored a pair of goals and assisted three others.

Kelsey Mackin and Alli Kontny led the Panthers with two goals each.

All five of Oxy's seniors were honored during a pregame ceremony and contributed to the win. Wemple, Kessler, Charlotte Bromley (Watertown, Conn.), Haley Gandsey (Oakland) and Isabel Osgood-Roach (Portland, Ore.) make up a unique graduating class that is the first group to play four years at Oxy and that led the Tigers to their first NCAA Division III postseason tournament in 2012.
