Box Score CAL LUTHERAN 3, OCCIDENTAL 0
THOUSAND OAKS — The Occidental College women's soccer team had a forgettable night in a 3-0 loss at Cal Lutheran on Wednesday, meaning its quest to clinch a spot in the four-team SCIAC postseason tournament will have to wait until its season finale at Redlands on Saturday.
It is Oxy's first loss in its last seven games.
The Tigers outshot the Regals 19-10, but couldn't find the back of the net. Kylie Takafuji led the way with five shots — three of them on target — and Abigail Mitchell and Julie Khil each had two.
Cal Lutheran's Bianca Deardorff, Kali Youngdahl and Olivia Leyva were the goal scorers.
Oxy currently sits in fourth (7-5-1, 22 points) trailing Pomona-Pitzer (7-2-4, 25 points), Cal Lutheran (9-2-2, 29 points) and first-place Claremont-Mudd-Scripps (10-3, 30 points), with a slight edge over fifth-place Redlands (6-5-2, 20 points).
If the Tigers win or tie against Redlands, they are in the SCIAC playoffs. If Oxy wins and Pomona-Pitzer loses its final game against Claremont-Mudd-Scripps, the Tigers will be the No. 3 seed.
The Tigers play at Redlands on Nov. 1 at 7 p.m.
