Box Score OCCIDENTAL 2, REDLANDS 1
Players of the Game: Morgan Bennett-Smith and Tod Kawada are proving to be two of the SCIAC's best forwards.
Bennett-Smith, a sophomore, scored his sixth goal of the season in the first half and Kawada, a freshman, added an insurance goal — his eighth of the season — to seal the deal in the second half.
The Oxy strikers have combined for 14 goals and six assists this season.
Redlands' Charles Izydorek scored in the 88th minute.
Long Time Coming: It is the first time that the Oxy men's soccer team has gotten points against the Bulldogs since tying them on Oct. 2, 2010.
It's the first time Oxy's beaten Redlands in head coach Rod Lafaurie's tenure.
From the Coach: "It's a huge road win and something this team knew they could do," Lafaurie said. "The way our conference is this year, anyone can beat anyone and now our challenge is to keep building and improving every game."
Stat of the Game: Oxy goalkeeper Theo Atkinson made six saves and held the Bulldogs scoreless for nearly 88 minutes.
Season Impact: The Tigers improve to 5-4 in SCIAC play (tied for fourth place with La Verne and Redlands) and 8-4 overall.
Next Game: The Tigers play their third road game in a row at Caltech on Saturday at 4 p.m. in Pasadena. Oxy beat the Beavers 4-0 when they faced them at home on Sept. 17.
