LOS ANGELES — Santiago Bedoya-Gallego knocked in a penalty kick in the 18th minute following a foul by La Verne goalkeeper Darrin Bangle, and Oxy never looked back, continuing its attack the rest of the game while limiting the Leopards chances in a a 5-0 rout.
Today's dominant performance gives the Tigers added momentum heading into their first SCIAC postseason tournament in program history. Oxy finishes the regular season 13-5-1, (10-5-1 SCIAC) La Verne dropped to 11-8-1 (8-8 SCIAC).
Tod Kawada added another goal to his outstanding freshman season in the 29th minute following a through pass from captain Alessandro Carotenuto. Today's goal put Kawada's goal total at 11 for the season.
Zack Conrad extended the Tigers' lead with a goal in the 57th minute with a shot from 23 yards away and Daniel Lawson headed in a goal in the 63rd minute off a deflection from the Leopard keeper.
Brooks Yeager added the final goal for Oxy after stealing a pass from a La Verne defender and netting a 20-yard shot.
SCIAC Postseason: With a spot in the SCIAC postseason tournament already secured, the Oxy men's soccer team came into Saturday's game looking to improve their seeding for next Thursday's semi-final match-up.
With today's win, the Tigers currently sit in second place (31 points), but must wait for the outcome of Pomona-Pitzer's and Chapman's final games before the standings are finalized. Both teams play tonight at 7 pm.
Senior Day: On senior day, Ian Agrimis started the game in front of the net, totalling five saves in 39 minutes.
Carotenuto played outstanding in the midfield and had one assist.
Tyler Eng and Garrett Schwab also started and played well in their final regular season match at Jack Kemp Stadium.
