WHITTIER — Senior captain Lindsay Albino made sure the Occidental College women's water polo team finished the season on a high note.
After leading Oxy to an 8-7 win over Chapman with three goals on Friday night, Albino tossed in three more against Cal Lutheran on Saturday morning, giving the Tigers a 13-9 win over the Regals in the Consolation Final of the SCIAC Championship Tournament at Whittier.
Oxy finishes the season in fifth place, marking the sixth consecutive year the Tigers have been been in the top five in SCIAC. The Tigers won six of their last nine games dating back to their March 29 win over top-seeded Pomona-Pitzer.
"It was a great way to end a season," Oxy head coach Larry Zubrin said. "We really came a long way this year. I was really impressed with the leadership of our seniors. They got this team together and we overcame a lot this season to finish strong."
Against the Regals, Oxy's offense came alive, taking a 10-4 lead by halftime. The Regals cut the advantage to 11-9 headed into the fourth quarter, but Oxy was able to hang on for the win.
All five of Oxy's field players scored a goal in their final collegiate game. Katya Soot matched Albino's offense with three goals of her own and Morgan McClafferty, Kelsey Shyba and April DesCombes each added one.
Oxy senior goalies Sofie Munoz and Geneva Perez finished the game in the pool together. Munoz saved four shots and Perez notched a steal after coming off the bench.
