Box Score Occidental 4, Caltech 0
Player of the Game: Gabriel Barrett-Jackson was solid all game as Oxy's center back and even added the Tigers' third goal of the night on a counter attack in the 60th minute.
Turning Point: After a handful of early opportunities came up short, Tod Kawada buried a goal in the 30th minute, giving the Tigers a 1-0 lead. The game was surely in hand when Morgan Bennett-Smith added Oxy's second goal in the 55th minute, adding some breathing room.
Stat of the Game: Bennett-Smith, who also assisted Barrett-Jackson's finish, just keeps generating offense for the Tigers. So far in five games, the sophomore has four goals and two assists.
Play of the Game: On a set piece from just outside the middle of the box, Grayson Burdon bent a low shot around the Caltech wall and into the bottom right corner of the net.
From the Coach: "I would have liked for us to start a little sharper, but we came around in the second half," Oxy head coach Rod Lafaurie said. "Any time you get three points in the SCIAC, you'll take it and this was a nice way for us to open up conference play at home."
Season Impact: After a 3-0 non-conference start, Oxy dropped its first two SCIAC games. This win gets them into the win column in league play.
Next Game: The Tigers host Redlands on Saturday at 7 p.m. at Jack Kemp Stadium.
