Box Score LOS ANGELES — Tiffany Kho and Ciara Byrne both entered double figures but the Tigers couldn't hold off a late surge from the Bulldogs at Rush Gymnasium on Saturday afternoon as they fell 71-66.
With the loss the Tigers drop to 4-14 overall and 2-7 in SCIAC play. Redlands improves to 9-10 and 6-4.
Byrne played one of her best games of the year nearly earning a double-double. She finished with 11 points, a team-high eight rebounds, and one block. Kho finished with 15 points, 5 assists, three rebounds, and two steals.
The Tigers began the second half with energy quickly erasing their halftime deficit off layups by Byrne and Kho to even the game 33-33. But the Bulldogs got hot from the beyond the arc and took a six point lead after Caitlin Ciardella and Kameran Dage both sank three-pointers.
The Tigers kept pace withe Redlands and Midori McElwee responded with three of her own to cut the lead 43-40 with 13:35 remaining in the game.
The Tigers best chance to keep the lead came in the middle of the period on a 11-4 run sparked by Erin Matsumoto. The freshman grabbed a pass from Kho and let off a shot from beyond the arc to cut the lead 45-43. On the following two possessions Matsumoto added two layups from inside the paint. Coupled with a basket by Kho and free throws from Byrne, the Tigers jumped ahead of the Bulldgos 51-49.
First Half: Early in the first half both teams struggled to get into a rhythm and combined for 17 first half turnovers. After trailing by five points midway through the half, the Tigers regained the lead off two free throws from Mackenzie Bretz and extended the lead to four following a Byrne layup.
The lead didn't last long as Bulldogs' guard Kameran Dage caught fire making 3-5 three-point attempts. Dage finished the half with 12 points.
Grace Baranowski helped chop away at the Bulldogs lead with a steal and finished the play with a three-pointer from the corner. The Bulldogs went into the locker room leading 33-29.
