Box Score CLAREMONT — Elijah Remy, Morgan Bennett-Smith and Grayson Burdon all found the net as the Occidental men's soccer team scored a pair of goals in the second half to beat Pomona-Pitzer 3-1 on Monday in a crucial game for the SCIAC regular season championship and playoff hunt.
Season Impact: With five matches to play, Oxy jumps in front of Redlands for first place by two points with the Bulldogs still to play on Monday at 7 p.m. against Claremont-Mudd-Scripps. Oxy improves to 10-1-3 overall and 7-1-3 in SCIAC play.
Pomona-Pitzer, which started the day in third place, falls to 6-6-2 and 6-4-1.
After coming out of halftime tied 1-1, Bennett-Smith scored his sixth goal of the season in the 51st minute for the game winner.
Bennett-Smith also recorded his fourth assist of the season when he found Burdon for the equalizer in the 23rd minute.
Remy gave the Tigers an insurance goal in the 55th minute and Oxy's defense was able to hold the lead.
Next Match: The Tigers face Whittier on Oct. 17 at 11 a.m. at Jack Kemp Stadium.
