Box Score LOS ANGELES — Daniel Lawson and the Occidental men's soccer team scored goal after goal, cruising to a statement victory over Whittier, 6-0 at Jack Kemp Stadium on Homecoming Saturday.
Season Impact: With four regular season matches to play, Oxy improves to 11-1-3 overall and 8-1-3 in SCIAC play. The Tigers sit in second place, one point back of Redlands in the standings.
The top four teams make the SCIAC Postseason Tournament which determines the conference's at-large bid the NCAA Division III Tournament.
Whittier falls to 5-8-1 and 4-7-1.
Valdair Martins-Lopes and Liam Walsh started the party with beautiful free kick goals in the first half. Martins-Lopes, who also notched his SCIAC-best sixth assist of the season in the second half, bent in a shot in the 29th minute and Walsh found the net with a shot that deflected off of the Whittier wall moments before half time.
Ariel Rosso scored on a rebound in the 50th minute and then Lawson had a pair of scores in the 53rd and 55th minutes.
Morgan Bennett-Smith scored the sixth goal of the game in the 74th minute.
Next Match: The Tigers return to action at Redlands in a showdown for first place on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
