LOS ANGELES — Megan Maher and Michaela Tsuha each found the back of the net as the Occidental women's soccer team beat Pomona-Pitzer 2-1 in an important SCIAC matchup on Wednesday.
Maher struck first for the Tigers. The sophomore forward netted a goal in just the 2nd minute of action off a fiery corner kick from Tsuha.
Tsuha then found the scoreboard in the 23rd minute thanks to assist from teammate Julie Khil.
Khil has been wrecking it all season for the Tigers, as she currently leads the SCIAC in assists (7) and is third in goals (8). Tsuha is tied for second in assists (5).
"We came out with the mindset that we needed a win," Tsuha said. "We played very composed. We're starting to find a rhythm, and we need to keep the winning mentality going through our last few games."
Danika Bethune scored Pomona-Pitzer's goal in the 77th minute.
Season Impact: Tonight's win is huge in keeping the Tigers' (5-4-2, 6-6-2) playoff hopes alive with three matches to go. Oxy is currently tied for fourth place with Cal Lutheran, with Whittier sitting one point back in fifth place and Pomona one point ahead in third.
