Box Score LOS ANGELES — Ariel Rosso scored a hat trick and had an assist as the Occidental men's soccer team clinched a spot in the four team-SCIAC Postseason Tournament with a 10-0 win over Caltech at Jack Kemp Stadium on Monday.
It is the program's second appearance in the tournament.
Rosso, a first year from Porterville, scored all three of his goals in the second half and assisted Morgan Bennett-Smith for the game's first goal in the 11th minute. Michael Tonetti found the net in the 17th minute and then Ethan Glass gave the Tigers a 3-0 lead before halftime with a goal in the 42nd minute.
Daniel Lawson, Valdair Martins-Lopes, Austin Lee and Brooks Yeager all scored in the second half.
Alejandro Pelayo and Glass each had an assist in the second half.
Season Impact: The Tigers improve to 12-3-3 overall and 8-3-3 in SCIAC play. Caltech falls to 0-15 and 0-15.
Playoff Seeding: The Tigers jump into third place with the victory. Oxy can be seeded as high as No. 2 and host a SCIAC playoff game, pending results from the rest of the season.
Senior Night: The Tigers honored eight seniors who have helped the program go 25-9-4 over the past two years. Tristan Cooper, Lawson, Martins-Lopes, Tonetti, Theo Atkinson, Connor Freeman, Keegan McChesney and Zach Conrad were joined by family, teammates and friends during a brief pregame ceremony.
Next Match: Oxy finishes the regular season at Claremont-Mudd-Scripps on Oct. 31 at 7 p.m.
