Oxy Sweeps First Place Redlands

Box Score

LOS ANGELES — The Occidental women's soccer team did what it needed to do to make the four-team SCIAC Postseason tournament, beating first-place Redlands for the second time this season, 2-0 at Jack Kemp Stadium on Saturday.

But the Tigers also had to have both Cal Lutheran and Whittier lose and that didn't happen, meaning Oxy finishes its season with another impressive win over one of the conference's best teams.

Cal Lutheran defeated La Verne 2-1.

Julie Khil, the 2014 SCIAC Women's Soccer Athlete of the Year, made her case for a repeat of the league's top honor, scoring the game's first goal in the 39th minute despite playing with broken ribs.

Khil was getting behind the Redlands defense for most of the first half and finally broke through, burrying a beatutiful right-footed shot to beat the goalkeeper far post and put Oxy up 1-0.

Michaela Tsuha scored Oxy's second goal in the 89th minute off a perfect through ball from Nicole Castro to seal the game.

Redlands had its share of opportunities throughout the game, firing 14 shots and eight on the frame.

Season Impact: The Tigers finish the year 7-7-3 overall and 6-5-3 in SCIAC play.

Senior Day: The Tigers honored four-year players and captains Tsuha and Kesley Hung with a brief pregame ceremony.
