Box Score CLAREMONT — Beebe Finch Sanders scored three goals and had five draw controls, and Sierra Slack and Rebecca Reese each added a pair of goals.
But the Occidental women's lacrosse team couldn't hang on to a 6-4 halftime lead, narrowly losing its season and SCIAC opener at Claremont-Mudd-Scripps, 12-10 at Zinda Field on Wednesday.
Oxy opens the season 0-1 overall and 0-1 in SCIAC play. CMS starts out 1-0 and 1-0.
Lauren Club scored the deciding goal for CMS, burying a free position shot with less than 2 minutes left that put the Athenas up 11-10. Joanna Heywood then added an insurance goal with 35 seconds to go.
Oxy held its two-goal halftime cushion until the Athenas scored three unanswered with just more than 10 minutes gone in the half.
Mackenzie Wright, Alida Beck and Brita Loeb each had one goal for Oxy.
Tara Gilbreth, Christina Coffin, Molly O'Donnell and Ellie Dolan led a balanced CMS attack with two goals each.
