WHITTIER — The Occidental women's water polo team opened the 2015 season with a pair of non-conference matches at Whittier on Saturday.

Game 1: Azusa Pacific 16, Occidental 4

Ana DeGroot led the Tigers with 13 saves and Nina Wheeler chipped in four steals, but it wasn't enough to stop Azusa Pacific. Katie Gibbs led Oxy with a pair of goals.

The Tigers trailed just 4-2 at halftime before letting the margin widen in the second half.

Game 2: Pomona-Pitzer 19, Occidental 2

Carly Zurcher led the Tigers with a pair of goals and Kyla Houck added three steals, but the Tigers only converted on one of their nine exclusions, falling to the Sagehens.

Next Game: Oxy returns to action at the Cal Baptist Lancer Mini Tournament this weekend, starting with the host Lancers at 9 a.m.
