LOS ANGELES — Occidental women's water polo goalkeeper Anna De Groot kept the Tigers close with six of her nine saves in the first half.
But Oxy struggled to convert its 6-on-5 opportunities, falling to Washington & Jefferson, 12-9 at Taylor Pool on Tuesday.
Katie Gibbs scored just one goal, but drew six exclusions and had three steals for the Tigers. Nina Wheeler scored three of her team-high four goals in the third quarter. Hi'ipoi Lee played a complete game, finishing with two goals, two assists and a steal.
From the Coach: "It was a tough loss. We had plenty of chances to put the ball away and just didn't connect," Oxy head coach Jon Bonafede said. "What matters most now is how we respond to this loss as we prepare for next Sunday."
The Tigers fall to 1-15 on the season. Wash. & Jefferson improves to 6-6.
Next Game: Oxy plays a doubleheader on Sunday in the Whittier Spring Mini Tournament, beginning with Brown at noon.
