WHITTIER — Lizzy Kosin led the way with four goals on five shots, but the Occidental women's water polo team couldn't keep up with Whittier in SCIAC action, losing 19-8 on Wednesday.
The Tigers got off to a slow start, missing some opportunities in the first quarter that would have kept them close. Instead, Oxy fell behind 6-2 at the end of the first quarter and 8-3 by halftime.
Oxy's best quarter was the third, playing Whittier to an 4-4 tie in the 8-minute segment.
From the Coach: "It wasn't our best performance, but we're still scratching the surface of getting our first conference win," Oxy head coach Jon Bonafede said.
Katie Gibbs and Hi'ipoi Lee each drew three kick outs and scored a goal.
The Tigers fall to 1-18 overall and 0-2 in SCIAC play.
Next Game: The Tigers return to action at home on Saturday at 11 a.m. against Claremont-Mudd-Scripps.
