WHITTIER — Sierra Slack and Rebecca Reese each scored four goals as the Occidental women's lacrosse team earned its second blowout victory in a row, beating Whittier 15-4 on Wednesday.

The Tigers improve to 2-3 overall and 2-3 in SCIAC play. Whittier falls to 0-5 and 0-5.

After starting out the season 0-3, Oxy has beaten Chapman and Whittier by more than 10 goals in consecutive road games.

Oxy went on a 10-0 run in the first half, led by Slack and Reese, who each scored three goals during the half.

From the coach: "We faced a good Whittier goalie, but worked hard for 60 minutes to figure it out," Oxy head coach Stephanie Janice Mark said. "Rebecca Reese had a career night with four goals and an assist."

Oxy's defense was good too, causing 12 of Whittier's 15 turnovers.

"Our defense started our offense again and that led to a lot of offensive possessions," Janice Mark said.

In the second half, Whittier got on the board with three consecutive goals, but Oxy countered with a 5-0 run and never relinquished control of the game.

Mackenzie Wright added three goals for Oxy and Brita Loeb had two. Monica Rosenkranz had four ground balls and Beebe Finch Sanders played a complete game, earning three draw controls, two ground balls and two caused turnovers.

Next Game: The Tigers travel to Colorado College to open a five-game non-conference stretch, beginning with Haverford on March 10. Oxy plays Colorado College on March 13 and then returns home to play Scranton on March 18.
