LOS ANGELES — Nina Wheeler and Carly Zurcher each recorded a hat trick, scoring three goals.
But the Occidental women's water polo team couldn't overcome a 7-0 deficit at the end of the first quarter, falling to Chapman 19-10 on Wednesday at Taylor Pool.
After the ugly start, the Tigers played the Panthers about even over the next three quarters.
Katie Gibbs and Lizzy Kosin each had a pair of goals for the Tigers. Oxy goalie Anna De Groot made 10 saves.
Oxy was 5 of 11 on 6-on-5 opportunities and committed 19 turnovers, some of them coming during Chapman kick outs.
From the Coach: "It wasn't the performance we wanted to have, but we're still improving," Oxy head coach Jon Bonafede said. "We need to put this one behind us quickly and get back to practice to prepare for La Verne."
Riley Ford led the Panthers and the game with four goals, and Emily Holmquist and Alison Quincy each added three.
Next Game: Oxy is back in action on April 8 at La Verne at 4 p.m.
