LA VERNE — Kyla Houck scored a pair of goals and Nina Wheeler, Lizzy Kosin and Carly Zurcher each added one.

But the Occidental women's water polo team came up short in its bid for its first SCIAC win of the season, losing the La Verne, 8-5 on Wednesday.

Anna De Groot made nine saves in goal for the Tigers. 

The Tigers and Leopards were tied 2-2 after the first quarter. Then Oxy's offense went quiet, managing just one goal throughout the next two quarters. The Tigers added two goals in the fourth, but the game was already out of reach.
