Box Score LOS ANGELES — Connor Freeman and the undefeated Occidental men's soccer team did it again, beating Pomona-Pitzer 2-1 in front of an energetic crowd at Jack Kemp Stadium on Saturday night.
The Tigers improve to 4-0-1 overall and 1-0-1 in SCIAC play. Pomona-Pitzer falls to 1-2-1 and 1-1 in SCIAC.
Freeman chipped a shot over Pomona-Pitzer goalkeeper Ben Mitchell in the 7th minute, scoring his team-best third goal of the season.
Just before halftime in the 44th minute, Liam Walsh scored Oxy's second goal on a pretty left-footed shot. He brought the ball down to his feet on a pass from Ethan Glass, took a calm touch and beat Mitchell to the far post on a line-drive shot.
Pomona-Pitzer Goal: Max DeWit rebounded and scored a free kick that Oxy goalkeeper Theo Atkinson made a diving save on in the 59th minute.
Second-Half Scare: Pomona-Pitzer's best chance to even the game came on a loose ball in the Oxy box that found the feet of JK Gopakumar whose shot from inside the 6-yard box was saved by a diving Atkinson
Oxy 1st Half Chances: Zack Conrad hit the post on a free kick from 25 yards out in the 23rd minute.
Michael Tonetti nearly put away a similar opportunity on a free kick 4 minutes later from the left side of the box, but Mitchell made a save at the near post.
Best Pomona-Pitzer 1st Half chance: Alan Peral had the Sagehens best chance of the first half, missing a good look at a right-footed shot high.
Packing the stands: The Tigers are averaging more than 500 people at their home games filled mostly with Oxy students.
Next Game: The Tigers play at Cal Lutheran on Monday at 7 p.m.
