Tigers Tie Athenas

Box Score

LOS ANGELES — The Occidental College women's soccer team played Claremont-Mudd-Scripps to a scoreless draw at Jack Kemp Stadium on Wednesday.

Season Impact: Oxy's record is now 2-5-1 overall and 1-3-1 in SCIAC play. CMS goes to 3-4-3 and 1-2-2.

Overtime: CMS' Remi Edwards had the best chance to score in overtime with 3 minutes remaining. She caught Oxy goalkeeper Sydney Tomlinson off her line on a breakaway, took a touch out wide left, but couldn't get much on her shot and Kelsey Hung was able to intercept the slow roller before it got to goal.

Darrah Shields had a good opportunity for the Athenas in the first overtime period. She controlled the ball at the top left corner of the box, cut back inside to her right foot and cracked a hard shot right that Tomlinson caught.

Second Half: Julie Khil had the first four shots of the second half by either team. She missed just wide left on a pass from Michaela Tsuha, setting up Oxy's first corner kick of the game in the 53rd minute, and then followed it up with three on shots on goal throughout the next 15 minutes.

Jacey Coniff gave the Athenas a good opportunity in the 77th minute with a nice free kick into the box, but Tomlinson came off of her line to punch it away.

First Half: CMS' Katelyn Faust had the game's first great chance to score in the 15th minute, drilling a free kick from 20 yards out off of the cross bar.

Just 2 minutes later, Faust created another chance, crossing a ball in to Darrah Shields whose header was saved by Tomlinson.

Tusha played well on the right side of the midfield, shooting three times and playing balls through and over the top of the Athenas defense to create offense for the Tigers.

Megan Maher, who scored in each of Oxy's last two games, had an impressive strike on a shot from 30 yards out just before half, but it was handled by CMS goalkeeper Kelly McConnell.

Next Match: The Tigers hit the road for their next two SCIAC matches, beginning at Whittier on Saturday at 7 p.m. Oxy plays at Redlands on Oct. 7 and then returns home against La Verne on Oct. 10.
