Box Score LOS ANGELES — Julie Khil scored a pair of goals as the Occidental women's soccer team beat La Verne 2-0 at Oxy's Grass Field on Saturday.
The Tigers improve to 7-3-1 overall and are in foruth place in the SCIAC at 4-3-1.
La Verne falls to 2-10 and 1-7.
Khil scored in the 41st minute and the 73rd minute. Robin Waymouth and Erin Dung each recorded assists.
The Tigers offense had a handful of great opportunities to add a thrid or fourth goal as the game opened up in the second half. Khil had a pair of shots that missed from the right side, Alana Hillman had a good look at the goal and Katherine Kim sent a shot off the crossbar.
Led by the solid play of center back Grace Sponaugle, Oxy's defense kept La Verne away from goalkeepers Dallas Gunny and Sydney Tomlinson, who were only forced to make a pair of saves between them.
Kylie Takafuji was sound in the midfield, controlling the ball and the game for the Tigers.
Oxy is back in action against Pomona-Pitzer on Wednesday at 7 p.m. at Jack Kemp Stadium.
