ORANGE — Lizzy Kosin and Mirei Yasuda combined for six goals after the first quarter and the Occidental women's water polo team did its best to overcome an early deficit.
But the Tigers' comeback came up short in a 13-8 loss at Chapman on Wednesday.
Oxy fell behind 7-1 before Kosin scored three of her team-high four goals goals in less than 1 minute in the second quarter to cut Chapman's lead to 7-4 at halftime.
The Panthers came out strong in the second half though, scoring five unanswered to put the game out of reach.
"During the game we had some really nice plays that we were able to put away," said Yasuda, who scored a pair of goals. "We played good team defense and with a high level of energy overall, which led to an exciting game."
Alison Quincy led Chapman with five goals.
Season Impact: Oxy falls to 2-7 overall and 0-3 in SCIAC play.
Chapman improves to 8-15 and 3-1.
Next Game: The Tigers are back in action on Saturday at Claremont-Mudd-Scripps at 7 p.m.
