Box Score LOS ANGELES — Sierra Slack scored a game-high five goals and snatched up five ground balls as the Occidental women's lacrosse team went toe-to-toe with a tough Colorado College squad in its final non-conference game of the season.
But Oxy's offense went cold in the second half, losing 8-7 at Jack Kemp Stadium on Saturday, ending the Tigers' winning streak at six games.
Season Impact: Oxy falls to 6-5 overall.
Colorado College improves to 7-2 on the year and 3-1 against SCIAC teams with wins over Oxy, Redlands and Chapman, and a loss to Claremont-Mudd-Scripps.
Colorado College's Mary Taussig, who finished with eight ground balls and seven caused turnovers, made the play of the game to steal and recover the ball with just 1:30 remaining, ruining Oxy's last chance at tying the game up.
Colorado College was able to maintain possession and run out the clock after that.
Steph Kelly scored two goals, had two assists, grabbed five ground balls and had five draw controls for Colorado College.
Mackenzie Wright and Rebecca Reese each had a goal for Oxy, and Madi Hallare and Shai Goodman each had an assist. Brita Loeb was active in the midfield, grabbing four ground balls and causing five turnovers.
Slack scored her fourth goal to tie the game at 5-5 just 7 seconds before halftime and then Wright gave Oxy a 6-5 lead less than 2 minutes into the second half before the Tigers went cold for nearly the next 25 minutes.
Oxy's defense kept its opponent in single digits for the seventh game in a row. The Tigers are 6-1 when their opponents don't get to 10 goals.
Next Game: The Tigers are back in action on Wednesday, hosting Claremont-Mudd-Scripps at 7 p.m.
