Box Score LOS ANGELES — Sierra Slack and the Occidental women's lacrosse team battled back from down three goals late in the second half and had a possession to tie it with just seconds remaining on the clock.
But Mackenzie Wright's shot just before time expired was saved by Kate Anello and the Tigers lost to Claremont-Mudd-Scripps 11-10 at Jack Kemp Stadium on Wednesday.
Season Impact: Oxy falls to 6-6 overall and 0-5 in SCIAC play.
CMS improves to 9-2 overall and 4-1 in SCIAC.
After Ellen Berkley gave CMS an 11-8 lead with 11:26 remaining, the Tigers answered with great defense and two goals over the next 10 minutes to cut the lead to one. Brita Loeb scored on a free position with 8:31 to play and then Slack scored her second goal of the game with 2:26 to go.
Slack finished with two goals and a team-high three assists. Ciara Byrne had four caused turnovers, two goals and three ground balls, and Wright and Brita Loeb each added two goals.
Berkley led CMS with four goals and Corie Hack chipped in two.
Neither team had more than a one-goal lead until Hack scored on a free position with less than 2 minutes remaining in the first half. Mikaela Connell put the Athenas up three with the first score of the second half and then the Tigers rattled off three straight with two goals from Wright and one from Rebecca Reese to even the game at 8-8 with 14:11 to go.
Next Game: The Tigers are back in action at Redlands on Saturday at 7 p.m.
