LOS ANGELES — Kyla Houck and Carly Zurcher each recorded hat-tricks for the Occidental women's water polo team in a 20-11 loss to La Verne at Taylor Pool on Wednesday.
Season Impact: The Tigers fall to 2-9 overall and 0-5 in SCIAC play.
La Verne improves to 15-3 and 4-1.
Oxy played some of its best offense of the year, tying its second-best goal total of the season with 11.
"Offensively, I thought we were the strongest we have looked all year. We were aggressive and knocked down shots when we needed to," Oxy head coach Chris Lee said.
Lizzy Kosin chipped in a pair of goals and Amanda Akiyama, Nina Wheeler and Zulema Iboa-Garcia all had one for the Tigers.
Defense was the issue for the Tigers.
"We need to get back to work on our help defense. The structure is there we just need to execute at a much higher efficiency," Lee said. "It's a tough game for us to lose, especially with the final score being what it was, but there were definitely some bright spots for us to build on."
Stephanie Rosero scored a game-high eight goals for the Leopards.
Oxy goalkeeper Anna De Groot made nine saves.
Next Game: The Tigers are back in action at Cal Lutheran on Saturday at 11 a.m.
