Box Score LA VERNE — Alana Hillman found the net in the 79th minute and the Occidental women's soccer team extended its impressive start to the season into SCIAC play, winning at La Verne 1-0 on Wednesday.
Kayla Coleman had her shot blocked, Hillman rebounded it and blasted it just under the cross bar, leaving the La Verne keeper without a prayer of stopping it.
The Tigers improve to 4-0 overall and 1-0 in conference. Included in Oxy's four victories are a pair of road wins over NCAA Division II schools in Hawaii.
La Verne falls to 1-4 and 0-1.
Oxy had far more offensive opportunities, outshooting the Leopards 11-5.
Julie Khil, the SCIAC Women's Soccer Athlete of the Week on Sept. 6, led Oxy with three shots and a pair on target. Khil currently leads the team with three goals on the season.
Dallas Gunny and Sydney Tomlinson each played a half in goal for the Tigers, making one save each.
The Tigers play at Pomona-Pitzer on Saturday at 4 p.m.
