Box Score WHITTIER — Matthew Teplitz scored the game's only goal as the Occidental men's soccer team got back in the win column with a 1-0 road win at Whittier on Saturday.
Teplitz, a first year from Chevy Chase, MD, has been a spark for Oxy's offense on the outside, taking players on and putting balls into the box. Earlier this season he had an assist against Willamette.
Season Impact: Oxy improves to 7-4 overall and 6-3 in SCIAC. The Tigers jump up to 18 conference points and are currently in third place, just one point back of second-place Cal Lutheran which has 19 points.
With five conference games to play, Oxy will be hard-pressed to catch Redlands for the SCIAC Regular Season Championship and the No. 1 seed in the conference tournament with the Bulldogs at 25 points, but can avoid Redlands in the first round and potentially host a semifinal if it plays its way into the No. 2 seed.
The Tigers still have league games against Pomona-Pitzer, Cal Lutheran, La Verne, Caltech and Redlands remaining.
The SCIAC tournament, which determines the SCIAC's automatic bid for the NCAA tournament, begins on Nov. 1.
Whittier falls to 3-7 and 3-6.
Next Game: The Tigers are back in action at Pomona-Pitzer on Wednesday at 4 p.m.
Whittier returns to action against Chapman on Oct. 14.
