Box Score CLAREMONT — Katherine Drake made nine saves, Alessandra Pelliccia had five goals and five draws, and the Occidental women's lacrosse team beat defending SCIAC Champion Pomona-Pitzer for the first time since 2014, 12-11 on the road on Wednesday.
Ciara Byrne had a very good all-around game, finishing with two goals, an assists, three ground balls and two caused turnovers for the Tigers.
Oxy defender Nicole Litt, "was an impact in our clears," according to head coach Stephanie Janice Mark.
The Tigers fell behind 8-6 in the first half and then rallied for the come-from-behind victory with a solid second-half performance.
Madisyn Hallare scored two goals, and Rebecca Reese, Shai Goodman and Sierra Slack each had one goal, rounding out Oxy's seven different players to find the net.
Sophie Hubbell and Rebecca Long led the Sagehens with three goals each.
Oxy's last victory over the Sagehens was an 8-6 overtime win on Feb. 15, 2014. Pomona-Pitzer has been the best team in the conference and had Oxy's number for the past couple of years, including beating the Tigers in the SCIAC Championship game and the First Round of the NCAA Division III Playoffs in 2015.
Season Impact: The Tigers improve to 4-1 on the season and 1-1 in SCIAC play.
Pomona-Pitzer falls to 1-3 and 0-3.
Next Game: Oxy is back in action against New England College at Jack Kemp Stadium on March 9.
