LOS ANGELES – The Occidental women's water polo team fell to SCIAC opponent Pomona-Pitzer, 18-7 at Taylor Pool on Wednesday.
Hi'ipoi Lee and Lori Berberian both scored two goals for Oxy. Carly Zurcher, Claudia Oppermann and Amanda Akiyama each scored one.
Pomona-Pitzer, which was picked to finish second in the SCIAC, played an aggressive defense that forced several Occidental turnovers throughout the game.
Down 2-0 to start the first quarter, Zurcher got the Tigers on the board with a score. The Sagehens responded with two goals, widening their lead.
Oxy won the sprint in the second quarter and Lee scored to bring the score 5-3 for the Sagehens, but the Sagehens went on a 4-0 to put the game out of reach.
Season Impact: The Tigers fall to 5-13 and 0-2 in conference play. The Sagehens improve to 8-15 and 2-0 in conference play.
Next Game: The Tigers have a doubleheader Saturday at Redlands. They play Redlands at 11 a.m. and Brown at 2 p.m.
