LOS ANGELES — Alessandra Pelliccia continued her excellent rookie season with another outstanding performance, but Chapman goalie Tara Sonnemaker was too good in the net as the Occidental women's lacrosse team fell 14-9 at Jack Kemp Stadium on Wednesday.
Pelliccia, the SCIAC's Player of the Week two weeks ago, finished with four goals, four draw controls and seven ground balls. She leads the conference in all three statistical categories.
The game was close and low scoring in the first half, with Chapman taking a 5-3 lead into the break.
In the second half, the Panthers went on a 5-1 run in the first 10 minutes to put the game out of reach.
Part of the trouble Oxy had finding the net was the effort from Sonnemaker who finished with 10 saves, often ruining good Oxy offensive opportunities.
Shai Goodman and Sierra Slack each finished with a goal and an assist, and Kallyn Song-Nichols scored one goal.
Chapman's Becka Watchel scored a game-high five goals.
Season Impact: Oxy falls to 10-3 and 4-3 in SCIAC play. The Tigers are in third place, one game ahead of fourth-place Redlands, and two games behind second-place Chapman. Four teams advance to the SCIAC tournament and the top two seeds are guaranteed a home game in the semifinals.
Chapman improves to 9-4 and 6-1 SCIAC.
Next Game: The Tigers close out their home regular season schedule with a Senior Night match up with Pomona-Pitzer on Saturday at 7 p.m.
