LOS ANGELES — Ciara Byrne, Sierra Slack and Neah Bois all had standout games, but the Oxy women's lacrosse team fell 14-10 to defending SCIAC champ Claremont-Mudd-Scripps at Jack Kemp Stadium on Wednesday.

Slack, the reigning SCIAC Women's Lacrosse Player of the Week, looked dominant for stretches of the game with four goals, three assists and 10 draw controls. She assisted or scored on five of Oxy's goals during an 8-4 run in the last 20 minutes of the game.

The Tigers managed just one goal and trailed in the first half before coming all the way back to make things interesting, trimming an eight-goal CMS lead down to four twice in the second half. 

Byrne showed off her speed in the open field and filled up the stat sheet, finishing the game with two goals, four ground balls and six caused turnovers.

Bois, Oxy's junior goalkeeper made 16 saves on the game, including a handful of key saves during Oxy runs in the second half. 

Oxy's Alessandra Pelliccia scored a goal and had five ground balls, Emma Barrow played solid defense and won four draw controls, Lauren DiLella and Marie Whitmore each had a goal and an assist, Zoe Edwards had an assist and Madisyn Hallare scored a goal.

Evan Murphy led CMS with five goals, six ground balls and four caused turnovers and Sally Abel added four goals. 

CMS' pressure defense was the difference in the game early, forcing 29 total turnovers and 16 in the first half. 

Season Impact: Oxy falls to 2-1 overall and 1-1 in SCIAC play.

CMS improves to 1-1 and 1-0.

Next Game: The Tigers are back in action on Saturday at 1 p.m. at Chapman. The Panthers finished second in the SCIAC last season.
