Oxy Routs Whittier, Ties Best Regular Season

LOS ANGELESSierra Slack became the program's all-time leader in goals and the Occidental women's lacrosse team tied its best regular season finish of 8-2 with a 23-7 rout over Whittier at Jack Kemp Stadium on Saturday.

Slack, a senior from Vorhees, N.J., caps an impressive career that's included multiple All-SCIAC and All-Region honors. The SCIAC leader in points scored seven goals, had two assists and had three draw controls, passing Tori Larson's career goals total of 201 to become the Tigers' new leader.

Senior Ciara Byrne, the SCIAC leader in goals, also had a big night with six points, moving into fifth place all-time in program history.

Junior midfielder Madisyn Hallare had a career-high five goals as 10 different Tigers recorded points. Corinne Bates was a standout on defense with three caused turnovers.

Oxy finishes the season 12-5 overall and 8-2 in SCIAC play, tieing its 2014 season for the best regular season conference finish in program history. Oxy will go into the four-team SCIAC Postseason Tournament as the No. 2 seed.

Next Game: Oxy will host either Pomona-Pitzer, Chapman or Redlands in the SCIAC Semifinals on April 28 at 1 p.m. The opponent is pending Sunday night's game between Pomona-Pitzer and Redlands scheduled for 7 p.m.
