THOUSAND OAKS — Ben Simon scored the game's only goal in the 47th minute as the Occidental men's soccer team won at Cal Lutheran 1-0 on Wednesday.
Cal Lutheran is the defending SCIAC Tournament champion and last year made the NCAA Division III tournament.
Simon, a junior center midfielder from Menlo Park, scores his third career goal and first in two seasons.
The game got a little anxious for the Tigers with 5 minutes left when goalkeeper Scott Drazan was yellow carded for stalling inside of his own box. Cal Lutheran was awarded a free kick from inside the box, but the shot went off the wall, the Tigers were able to clear it and hang on for the win.
Season Impact: Oxy improves to 3-0 overall and wins its first SCIAC game of the year.
Cal Lutheran falls to 0-2 and 0-1.
Next Game: The Tigers are back in action on Saturday playing Whittier at 7 p.m. at Jack Kemp Stadium for their home SCIAC opener.
