LA VERNE — Kyra Bethune, Chiara Serafini, Anaise Nugent and Alannah Leitner all scored as the Occidental women's soccer team won at La Verne, 4-1 on Saturday night.
All four women are first years at Oxy.
It was Leitner's first career goal, Serafini's second, Bethune's third and Nugent currently leads the Tigers with a team-best five goals on the season.
The victory and scoring outburst ends a streak of three losses where the Tigers didn't find the net. Oxy has been playing well enough to win, but has allowed a handful of silly goals and hasn't had the quality in decisive moments it needed to finish off scoring opportunities.
All of that changed in the 31st minute when Bethune evened the game at 1-1.
Alina Cobian scored the game's first goal for the Leopards in the 16th minute.
Oxy's remaining goals came in the second half. Serafini had the game-winner in the 50th minute, Nugent scored in the 54th and Leitner scored in the 65th, confirming the flood gates were open.
Season Impact: Oxy improves to 7-3-1 overall and 3-3-1 in SCIAC play. With five regular season games to play, Oxy is one point out of the SCIAC playoffs, sitting in fifth.
La Verne falls to 2-8-1 and 1-5-1.
