Schwartz Scores Two in CLU Win

Box Score

LOS ANGELESJoey Schwartz scored two goals as the Occidental men's soccer team beat Cal Lutheran 2-1 in an important SCIAC match up at Jack Kemp Stadium on Homecoming Saturday.

The first goal came in the 42nd minute. Nicolas Eble started it with a misdirection pass to Marcus Blumenfeld up the right side of the field. Blumenfeld hit a beautiful cross to the back post where Joey Schwartz ran onto it nicely, slotting it far post.

CLU's Justin Magana evened the game at 1-1 with a score in the 53rd minute on a set piece shortly after halftime.

Schwartz then scored his second and game-winning goal in the 81st minute, chasing down a bad pass from the CLU defense and hitting a shot past the CLU keeper.

Season Impact: Oxy improves to 8-5-3 overall and 5-4 in SCIAC. The Tigers remain in fourth place with a three-point lead and the head-to-head tiebreaker over fifth-place La Verne for the fourth-and-final SCIAC Playoff spot, with three games to go.

Cal Lutheran falls to 5-9 and 3-6.

Next Game: Oxy is back in action against Pomona-Pitzer on Wednesday at 7 p.m. at Jack Kemp Stadium.
