LOS ANGELES — The Occidental women's soccer team won its fourth game in a row, beating Whittier 4-0 on the road on Saturday night.

The Tigers improve to 10-3-1 overall and 6-3-1 with 19 points in SCIAC play. Oxy is trailing the fourth-and-final SCIAC playoff spot by one point with two games to play against Cal Lutheran and La Verne.

The defending SCIAC Tournament Champions are knocking on the door to a return to the four-team SCIAC playoff, needing some positive outcomes in their final two games. There are a number of scenarios that could put Oxy as high as the No. 2 seed in the standings with a home semifinal game, or as low as No. 5, missing the tournament all together. 

Chiara Serafini had the only goal in the first half, and then goals from Meredith Cook, Alannah Leitner and Isabella Bonomi in the second half to put the game out of reach.

Oxy played with good temp and created several chances before Serafini fired one into the top corner from an acute angle in the 21st minute.

Oxy had many more chances and could have led by even more before the break.

Cook's shot made it a two-goal game in the 60th minute.

Anaise Nugent led the forward line with purpose and the Tigers were rewarded for pushing the game with the goals from Leitner and Bonomi in the final 11 minutes.

Katie Wood had a goal called back that would have been the icing on the cake for her fine game.

"Overall it was a strong purposeful performance that bodes well for the week ahead," Oxy head coach Colm McFeely said.

The Tigers outshot Whittier 26-8 and fully dominated the contest.

Oxy has outscored its opponents 11-2 in its last four games. 

Whittier falls to 3-6-5 and 3-4-3 in SCIAC.

The Tigers return home to play La Verne on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
