Chapman Edges Oxy

LOS ANGELES — The Occidental women's soccer team fell in a 1-0 battle with Chapman at Jack Kemp Stadium on Saturday.

Maddie Bigcas had the decisive goal on a cross from the left, beating Oxy goalkeeper Maggie Baird to the ball for a tap in in the 58th minute.

Oxy had a couple good chances to score in the second half with Kialani Mackey sailing a shot high, Anaise Nugent hitting a header that hit the post and Layla Devlin hitting a pair of shots that needed quality saves.

The Tigers had 14 shots to Chapman's eight, including five on goal, but didn't score.

Season Impact: The Tigers fall to 6-2-1 on the season and 2-2-1 in SCIAC play. Oxy is now in sixth place in a tight race for the top four playoff spots in the SCIAC with seven points. Pomona-Pitzer has a big lead for first with 15 points, but just two points separate teams No. 2-6. One result of three points can equal a big swing in the standings.

Chapman improves to 6-1-3 and 2-1-2. They are tied for third with eight points.

Next Game: Oxy is back in action on at Cal Lutheran on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
