Defending Champs Bow Out in Semis

CLAREMONT — The Occidental women's soccer team had a good season come to an end in a 5-0 loss at Pomona-Pitzer in the SCIAC Semifinals on Thursday afternoon.

Pomona-Pitzer scored two goals in the first half and three more in the second.

Oxy, the defending SCIAC Tournament Champion, finishes the season 11-5-1 overall and 7-4-1 in SCIAC play.

Pomona-Pitzer, the No. 8-ranked team in NCAA Division III, improves to 16-1-1, advancing to the SCIAC Championship game to play the winner of Cal Lutheran and Chapman. The Sagehens were also the regular-season SCIAC Champions.

Oxy had a good season and has a bright future, with two first years and one sophomore making the All-SCIAC teams that were announced on Thursday morning. Sophomore defender Caroline Kearney and first year midfielder Chiara Serafini each made the First Team, and first year forward Anaise Nugent made the Second Team.

The Tigers graduate Karla Alas-Lopes, Devoney Amberg, Berkli Maningo and Meredith Cook, who have all had successful careers and been key players. The group helped lead Oxy to its first ever SCIAC Tournament Championship and NCAA Division III playoff appearance in 2018.
