Undefeated Oxy Wins at CMS

Box Score

LOS ANGELES — The Occidental women's soccer team earned an important and impressive comeback road win at Claremont-Mudd-Scripps 2-1 on Wednesday night, handing the Athenas their first loss of the season, while staying undefeated.

Oxy moves to 5-0-1 overall and 1-0-1 in SCIAC play.

Anaise Nugent scored both Oxy goals in a span of less than 2 minutes, giving Oxy the come-from-behind victory. She scored off a corner kick in the 82nd minute on an assist from Isabella Bonomi and then again in the 83rd minute on an assist from Savana Gonzales.

It was a lot of action in a short amount of time that followed the Athenas' goal from Kira Favakeh in the 80th minute on a penalty kick.

The Tigers showed resilience and tenacity in responding quickly.

"We fought hard to the end and managed the game very well for the final 6 minutes to secure a very fine early season win," Oxy head coach Colm McFeely said.

The Tigers are the defending SCIAC Tournament Champions and have had tremendous success in the last two years, going 15-3-6 in their last 24 games. They also made their first ever NCAA Division III Playoff Appearance in Texas last season.

Next Game: Oxy is back in action at Caltech on Saturday at 2 p.m.
