Box Score LOS ANGELES — After spotting Bates six goals, the Occidental women's lacrosse was absolutely dominant.
The Tigers battled back and played well on offense and defense, winning their home opener 19-13 at Jack Kemp Stadium on Thursday.
Alessandra Pelliccia led the way with six goals, an assist and three caused turnovers, Marie Whitmore had three goals and three assists, Isabella Litt had four goals and an assist, Annie Dolan had three goals and Lauren Di Lella had three goals and an assist.
Zoe Edwards caused three turnovers, Emma Rogers had five ground balls and Oxy goalkeeper Katherine Drake was solid in the cage, saving three shots with just seven goals against her in about 45 minutes played.
The Tigers couldn't have looked worse as they fell behind 6-0 in the first 5 minutes. After coach Hannah Khin called a timeout, the team regrouped and from that point on, couldn't have looked better.
Di Lella finally tied the game at 10-10 on a free position in the second half.
Oxy really took over and put the game away with a 9-0 run that last the back 20 minutes of the second half, putting the Tigers up 19-12. Bates finally got a goal with less than 1 minute to play.
Led by Emma Barrow, Oxy's defense went without allowing a goal for the better part of 20 minutes.
Season Impact: The Tigers improve to 2-0 on the season.
Bates falls to 0-1.
Next Game: Oxy is back in action on Saturday, playing Cal Lutheran in SCIAC play. The Tigers opened the season with a 25-8 win at Whittier on Wednesday night.
