LOS ANGELESSydney Shipp and the Occidental men's basketball team made a big push in the second half.

But the 16-point halftime deficit was too much to overcome in an 80-67 loss at Pomona-Pitzer on Saturday.

Shipp scored all 12 of his points and had two of his four steals the second half as the Tigers scored 47 points. The lead got down to seven at one-point, but the Sagehens were able to make key baskets to hold off the Tigers.

Ryan Kaneshiro led Oxy with a big game on offense and defense, scoring a team-high 18 points on 9 for 11 shooting, along with dishing out seven assists. The senior Oxy assist champ is leading the SCIAC in assists per game with better than 6 per game.

Caleb Yellin-Flaherty added 15 points, Jacob Adler had 13 and Kyle Dosa had six.

The Tigers shot 49 percent from the field, but gave up 57 percent from the field and 56 percent from three to the Sagehens.

Oxy also did not shoot a free throw, while Pomona-Pitzer made 9 of 10.

James Kelbert led the Sagehens with 19 points and nine rebounds.

Season Impact: Oxy is 18-5 overall and 10-4 in SCIAC play.

Pomona-Pitzer is 19-5 and 12-3.
