But despite holding a three-goal halftime lead and solid performances from a number of players, the Tigers fell 10-9 in a thriller at defending SCIAC champion Claremont-Mudd-Scripps on Saturday.
CMS scored four of the last five goals to erase what was a 7-4 Oxy lead at halftime.
Marie Whitmore had a team-high four goals for Oxy, including one to go up 9-8 with 3:30 left in the game. From that point on, the Tigers did not win a draw and weren't able to find the net.
CMS scored two goals quickly to jump back in front.
Sally Abel led the Athenas with four goals, including the game-winner with 2:42 left in the game.
Oxy had seven draw controls to 14 for CMS on the game.
Emma Barrow and Emma Rogers were very good for Oxy on defense, each causing five turnovers. The Tigers got stop after stop, especially in the second half with CMS having the bulk of the possession down the stretch.
Lauren Di Lella had three goals, and Isabella Litt and Elizabeth Andrews each had one for Oxy.
Katherine Drake had six saves in goal for Oxy, including a big one with 5 minutes to play.
Season Impact: The Tigers are handed their first defeat of the season, falling to 4-1 overall and 3-1 in SCIAC play.
CMS improves to 2-1 overall and 2-1 in SCIAC.
