LOS ANGELES — The Occidental women's water polo team won big in its home opener, 18-5 over Caltech on Wednesday night.
Lori Berberian, Michela Imperiale, Olivia Montgomery and Monica Chernoff led the way with three goals each. Anne Werum had two goals and one assist, Emily Kapins had a goal and two assists, Nanki Sandhu had a goal and an assist, and Jenny Desch and Kayla Lin each had one goal.
Mika O'Shea had two saves in the goal for Oxy, allowing just one score for the Beavers, and Allison Smith made five saves and allowed four goals.
Mackenzie Wooten led Caltech with a pair of goals.
The Tigers were in control from the very beginning and put the contest away early, going up 6-1 at the end of the first quarter and 11-1 by halftime.
Season Impact: Oxy moves to 1-1 on the season and 1-1 in SCIAC play.
Caltech falls to 0-2 and 0-2.
Next Game: The Tigers are back in action at the Convergence Tournament this weekend, beginning against Concordia on Friday.
Oxy's next home game is against Penn. St. Behrend on Monday at 7 p.m.
The Tigers return to SCIAC play on March 11 at Redlands.
