Los Angeles, CA — The Occidental women's soccer team went into overtime again, this being the fifth time this season, but they were able to get a golden goal within the first five minutes. An overtime penalty kick was the decider in Saturday night's matchup between Occidental and La Verne.
The first half was a competitive and physical affair as both sides pressed for an opening goal. Oxy and La Verne traded chances throughout the second half, but still neither team could find a go ahead goal. Midway through the first half of overtime, midfielder Ella Endo was fouled inside the penalty box giving the Tigers a golden opportunity to win the game. Endo converted the penalty kick giving Oxy a 1-0 victory over their conference rivals. La Verne goalkeeper McKenzie Maggiore made six saves out of seven shots on goal while Oxy goalkeeper Ingrid Odmark, who made three saves of the night, and the Tigers defense held strong to keep the clean sheet.
