Claremont, CA — The Occidental women's soccer team played against Claremont-Mudd-Scripps last Saturday. For the fourth time this season Oxy went the distance and into another double-overtime contest. After 110 minutes of play at Pritzlaff Field the score stood at 0-0.
The teams were evenly matched throughout with two well organized and committed sets of players determined to come away with something from the game. Tigers came closest to breaking the deadlock when Nisi Nugent outpaced the CMS backline, went past the goalkeeper and from an acute angle hit a shot off the top of the post.
Although no one was able to get the ball in the back of the net, Ella Endo led the Tigers in the number of shots on goal. She had four of the Tigers nine shots, all saved by CMS goalkeeper, Athena Manthouli. Deep into the second overtime period, Tigers Ella Endo broke through on the right and from 18 yards fired a right foot effort against the inside of the post. The ball ricocheted across the goal to safety and that turned out to be the last clear-cut chance of the game.
The Athenas had a total of 10 shots on goal, with Jenna Rempel, Nicole Oberlag, and Ava Schmitt taking the lead. However, the Athenas were unable to get past Oxy goalkeeper, Ingrid Odmark who had four key saves for the night.
Next Game: Oxy returns home for a game against Caltech at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 29, 2021. Adding to the night, the Oxy Dance Team will be performing at halftime.
