Los Angeles, CA — Occidental's men's soccer team kept on rolling on Saturday night in Whittier.
The Tigers wasted no time getting things started against the Poets, scoring within the first 30 seconds of the game. After a Tiger throw in, Andrew Notter centered a ball that was headed away by a Whittier defender but the ball went straight to Vicente Navarro who kicked a strike from about 20 yards away into the back of the net for a 1-0 lead.
Oxy would play hard for the whole 1st half and eventually get on the board again right before halftime. With about a minute and a half to go in the 1st half, Aiden Aley made a push downfield and passed to Jazz Henry who quickly passed back to Aley who charged past Poet defenders. Aley got past all defenders and placed a kick into the bottom right side of the goal to extend the lead to 2-0.
Oxy took that momentum and scored half a minute into the start of the 2nd half when Christian Corcoran made a steal at midfield to start a fast break towards the goal. Corcoran charged down the field and took a shot that the goalie saved but the ball deflected forward to Jake Foster who put it in for the Tigers third goal.
The Tigers got another opportunity to score when a foul was committed by Whittier on a throw-in pass. Joey Schwartz would take the resulting penalty kick and capitalize on it to extend the lead further to 4-0.
The Tigers would score their fifth and final goal when Sacha Serog made a nice pass to Kai Fiedelholtz who the play off with a score. The Poets would get on the board once but the Tigers were simply sensational in this game, winning by a score of 5-1.
Oxy picked up another conference win to improve their SCIAC record to 5-1-1 for the 2022 season.
Next Game: The Tigers will travel to Thousand Oaks, CA to take on the California Lutheran University Kingsmen on Wednesday, October 12th at 7:00PM.
