Oxy Improves Times Against CMS

Los Angeles, CA – On Saturday, the men's and women's swimming and diving teams hosted CMS for the third meet of the season. The exciting matchup gave the Tigers a much needed challenge in the pool.

Overall, the Tigers put up a great showing against CMS. They scored 5-10 more points on both the womens and mens side than last year!  An excellent way to make a statement for SCIACs.

Starting off the meet strong was first year Amanda Goerge. George has been dominant in the distance events this season and stuck to it at this meet. She had a phenomenal 1000 free winning the event in 11:07.10, followed by her teammate Sam Edingtion, who placed 3rd in a time of 12:02.52. On the mens' side, Joshua Spessert (2nd, 10:21.06) and Nico Cantrell (4th, 10:37.22) both put up strong swims to score big points for the Tigers.

Sophomore Sarah Radle has also been dominant in the freestyle events this season. She won the 200 Freestyle in a time of 1:56.47 followed by Nathalie Kerington (6th, 2:02.65). She also had a very strong performance in the 500 freestyle placing second in a time of 5:18.66 followed by George (3rd, 5:25.89). Charging ahead, Alex To was the highest finisher on the men's side for the Tigers in the 500 freestyle (3rd, 4:52.51), followed by Spessert (4th, 5:07.27).

The men's team also had higher finishes than last year. The incredible depth they have in breaststroke is a huge help to scoring points. Nate Pitroff lead to way for the Tigers in the 100 breaststroke placing 2nd in a time of 1:00.02 followed by Matthew Spruance (4th, 1:01.32), Peyton Resto (5th, 1:02.82), Will Thomas (6th, 1:05.66), and Beau Brauer (7th, 1:06.68).

First year Emily Szopa has been a huge contributor for the Tigers this season. She continues to reign supreme in the butterfly events. She won the 100 butterfly in a time of 57.70 lowering her time from the last meet. She was followed by her teammates Candace Farling (6th, 1:02.44), Florence Lo (7th, 1:04.22), and Kay McIntosh (8th, 1:09.80). In the 200 fly Emily won the event in 2:09.06 followed by Candace Farling (4th, 2:21.02).

To put the cherry on top of a great showing for the Tigers, the men's 4x100 freestyle relay had 4 very strong legs swam by To, Thomas Hoffman, Pitroff, and Josh Biggs to secure second place. This puts the Tigers in good shape for the rest of the season.
